Celebrating Valentine’s Day with my Kids

Celebrating Valentine's Day with kids

Note: This post contains cuteness overload. Also, this post is sponsored by Minted and contains affiliate links. Despite the sponsored nature of the post, you will never read anything other than my honest and genuine opinions.

I’ve said it a billion times before, but kids make holidays that much more fun. Especially Hallmark holidays like Valentine’s Day. My kids are at the perfect age right now where they are obsessed with anything and everything festive. They were asking to put up heart decor the second we took down the tree. They also beg me to walk down the “pink and red” aisle every time we stop at Target. By all means, I love my husband, but he sure doesn’t appreciate Valentine’s Day quite like my kids do.

As cute as a button

If you caught my post earlier this week, I already talked about fun Valentine’s Day date ideas, along with what to wear to them. That post mainly centered around spending quality time with my husband. However, Valentine’s Day is definitely for my kids as well. They have been constantly asking what we are doing to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year. What kind of Valentine’s Day party are we having at school? What kind of valentines should I get? Can I start making a box to collect my valentines? Can we buy Valentines Day cookies? Can I have a sucker? The questions seriously never end (and usually involve some type of sugar). All the parents out there totally understand.

Now that both of my kids are in school, I’m lucky because most of the Valentine’s Day celebration happens at school. Yes, we always do a little something special at home, but the school party is where it is at (and better yet, the teachers clean up the mess). Like I mentioned up top, I was so excited to partner up with Minted again this year (click here to see last year’s post) for my kids’ classroom valentines.

How adorable are these custom

The biggest reason I’m a fan of Minted’s classroom valentines is because they are truly one-of-a-kind. Basically the opposite of the 4 identical superhero Valentines Carter received from his class last year. Yes, those are cute, too, but can you really pass up a cute photo card if you have the option? This year, Carter chose the pirate card and Kenzie picked the cute heart sunglasses card. You also have the choice to customize the text and place an additional photo on the back of each card.

This is just too perfect for Valentine's Day

I love these custom Valentines

To be clear, these are classroom sized cards and are too small to be mailed. Meaning your kid’s valentine will still easily fit in the cute shoe boxes they will make at school. I always like to send the extra cards out to my family across the country, because why waste such cuteness (I wonder how many times I’ve said a variation of the word “cute” in this post so far??). It is super easy to put the small Valentine cards in a larger envelope and drop them off at the good old USPS. Definitely an option if you want to send some love outside of just school.

The perfect Valentines

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that my kids don’t appreciate cards quite like the parents do. Therefore, I always try to attach a little something extra to each valentine. Last year, I taped a heart sucker to each card. However, Carter also received about 10 other suckers and other sugary treats, so this year I opted to go the trinket route instead. I found these cute heart sunglasses that were perfection to go along with Kenzie’s valentines for a steal. I also found cute Valentine’s Day mazes that fit perfectly inside Carter’s pirate cards, but failed to photograph them (you can kiiiind of see one poking out of the picture directly above this paragraph).

I’d be lying if I didn’t plan to keep a couple of the valentines for myself. Carter asked if he could display a few on his new adorable artist shelves which we recently hung over his bed. I’m not joking – every parent needs a set of these. Especially parents whose kids love Legos. These shelves come in four colors, three different lengths, and are seriously GENIUS. So perfect for displaying artwork, sports photos, awards and the most recent Lego creation of the week.I'm in love with these art shelves

Like I mentioned above, we will probably do a little something with my kids at home on Valentine’s Day, but I’m talking a cupcake or special dinner. Or heck, an extra hug would be enough, too. I’m a big believer that Valentine’s Day is not Christmas and does not require large gifts. Just a little something to say “I love you” is all the kids need. Especially when their teachers are already putting on a far better party than I would at home.

Now just because I can’t resist, I’m going to leave you with a few more adorable photos. Do you do anything fun with your kids for Valentine’s Day? Let me know in the comments below!!
